Exam 70-441: PRO: Designing Database Solutions by Using Microsoft SQL Server 2005

Posted by zieglers on January 31, 2007

 Database Design

Today I passed 70-441: PRO: Designing Database Solutions by Using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 exam, this time with a score of 950. Here are some notes about it:

– It has 56 questions.

– 6 testlets.

– Each testlet, which is actually a scenario based set of questions, covers from 5 to 12 questions.

– Scenario texts are not that short and full of specific requirements which may confuse you while looking for a solution to a design problem asked.

– You can view scenario sections anytime while answering questions.

– Each testlet has its own time limit, which tests your design capabilities under stress. 😀

… and very very important note to the ones who plan to take this exam after only going throuh testking, actualtests or similar products: IT’S BEEN UPDATED!!! 🙂

So, you may come across at least 2 different questions from each testlet. Keep that in mind! 😉

12:00 am & PearsonVue.com Exam Scheduling

Posted by zieglers on January 30, 2007

It was preety late when I decided to schedule my 70-441 exam last night. I had done my review and were ready to schedule the next day’s exam by PearsonVue.com. I logged in the site and made the scheduling and just before clicking ‘Confirm’ button (11:59pm), I stopped and wanted to re-check my scheduling details one more time. I finished rechecking and when I clicked ‘Confirm’. Then I was shocked with a pop-up message saying that I can’t schedule within the same day I plan to get the exam. 😦 I looked at the time in the taskbar, it was 12:00 🙂

It was obvious that PearsonVue exam scheduling database jobs had already started or would start soon. Most probably replication responsible for distributing scheduling data to exam provider test centers takes place around 12-1am. 😐

So, I suggest you to schedule your exams not so late. 🙂 At least, that’s the thing I’ll do for tomorrow’s exam: 70-441: PRO: Designing Database Solutions by Using Microsoft SQL Server 2005

Exam 70-431: TS: Microsoft SQL Server 2005—Implementation and Maintenance

Posted by zieglers on January 23, 2007

Today I got my 3rd TS exam, TS: Microsoft SQL Server 2005—Implementation and Maintenance. I passed with a score of 982. However, this time it wasn’t easy.

I can say that whoever underestimates the difficulty level of this exam will get a huge disappointment, especially when (s)he faces with the first simulation question. 🙂

This is an hybrid exam. I mean, you’ll find questions asking you to make single/multiple selections. Besides, you will also get simulation questions which simulates the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio environment. Since I got the test this morning, let me give you some hints about simulations.

There were 12 simulations and 40 single/multiple selection questions in the exam. Btw, I got the exam in Toronto, Canada. The number of questions may vary in different regions.

1 – installing a sql server instance, server2, with the same features and configuration of a given example instance, server1.

2- finding out view(s) causing error while reporting and deleting them. you need to figure out errant view(s) by looking at their SQL statements. Not that easy, I’d say! Good Luck! 🙂

3- killing a process with an open transaction.

4- fixing a view which causes error while inserting rows.

5- creating a database with the given details. To answer this question, you need to know the difference between RAID0 and RAID1.

6- creating a linked server and implementing the impersonation.

7- modifying a user-defined function which calls a CLR procedure which attempts to write to local file system. Ok, here is the hint: Know how to deploy assemblies and the meaning of Safe, Unsafe and External_Access 😉

… and some more! I can’t remember the rest now. 😦 If I do in time, I’ll add them as well.

 This is not a kind of certification exam that you can pass only by studying testking or braindumps, sorry guys! You need to know how to navigate through the Management Studio and also where you find the specific properties of objects.

It’s so easy to fail the exam if you don’t do good at simulation questions. Only solving the others won’t save you!!! The thing I like about the new generation of Microsoft Certifications is that not only it examines the theory but also the practice and experience you have on the subject.

To conclude, ensure that you had enough practice with Management Studio before you get the exam!

Good Luck!!! 🙂

After Exam: 70-528

Posted by zieglers on January 16, 2007

Exam Passed

Today I passed 70-528: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 – Web-Based Client Development with a score of 965 again, just like the previous one, 70-536.

I was expecting to get 71 questions, however # of questions was 45. I guess, this varies from region to region. Looking at my score, I can say that I had again 2 wrong answers. I know one of it. Here is the other one that I’m suspicious about:

Q: You create a Web application. The Web application enables users to change fields in their personal profiles. Some of the changes are not persisting in the database. You need to raise a custom event to track each change that is made to a user profile so that you can locate the error. Which event should you use?

A. WebAuditEvent

B. WebEventManager

C. WebBaseEvent

D. WebRequestEvent

My answer was C. However, since WebAuditEvent is inherited from WebBaseEvent and in the question it is stated that a change tracking should be implemented, I thought WebAuditEvent might be more suitable. What do you think?

My next step in the certification step will be 70-431. Also if you know anything about ‘simulations’, I’ll be glad if you can share your knowledge. What are they? How simulation questions are answered? Things to consider while answering them…

Exam 70–536 : TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 – Application Development Foundation

Posted by zieglers on January 8, 2007

I want to write some comments about 70-536 exam. I got this exam today and passed with a score of 965 (over 1000). This means that I had 2 wrong answers out of 45 questions.

Firstly, I’d like to say that there are a lot of unambigious questions. I know, this is a general comment about Microsoft Certification Exams and you can come across this statement in many blogs. However, I’ll be more specific in this posting and point out some questions (splinters) in my mind.

Q.1. You need to write a multicast delegate that accepts a DateTime argument and returns a Boolean value. Which code segment should you use?

   A. public delegate int PowerDeviceOn ( bool, DateTime );

   B. public delegate bool PowerDeviceOn ( Object, EventArgs );

   C. public delegate void PowerDeviceOn ( DateTime );

   D. public delegate bool PowerDeviceOn ( DateTime );

I answered ‘C’ for this question. Could someone please explain me why ‘C’ is wrong?

( If you look at the Testking answer for this question, it says ‘A’! If ‘A’ is the right answer, why?!? )

 Q.2. You work as a developer at Company.com. You are creating an assembly named Company1. Company1 contains a public method. The global cache contains a second assembly named Company2.

You must ensure that the public method is only called from Company2. Which permission class should you use?

   A. GacIdentityPermission

   B. PublisherIdentityPermission

   C. DataProtectionPermission

   D. StrongNameIdentityPermission

I answered this as ‘A’. However, Testking guys say that the correct answer is ‘D’ with which i’m not satisfied. Could you also please share your comments on this one as well?! 🙂

My advise to the ones who’s gonna take the exam would be not to accept all Testking answers as correct. Make some research on questions whose answers seem wrong to you. Also share your concerns with others for sure! 😉 ( At least with the ones whose first aim is to LEARN, not to get certified! )
